A Woman from West Pokot County known as Kephina Cheruto has finally added her voice about how her marriage hit the rock after her husband and relatives made her unbearable.
According to Cheruto, she became abusive both verbally and physically, but she hoped and prayed that things would change.
“I was forbidden from speaking to neighbours even if they were women. I was to stay indoors or within the compound at all times. If I spoke to someone , they would always urge to flew from the family, but I did not listen; I was in love,” she said.
In an exclusive interview that we saw courtesy of TUKO.co.ke’s Yvonne Kawira, Cheruto always yearned for peace and followed the instructions to keep her marriage intact and hoped for the best.
Cheruto carried her pregnancy to term but unluckily the baby passed away in the hospital after birth.
She said that it was the most heartbreaking moment she had ever experienced.
“It is like he was waiting for me to come to see him one last time, and then he passed a way later that night. I couldn’t handle the pain. No one was with me at the hospital. Even my mother-in- law left me at the hospital and went back home,” she reiterated.
A month after the ordeal, Cheruto’s husband demanded that she gets pregnant immediately.
She recalled how her ex-husband would get furious and beat her whenever she was on her period , she thought the beating would stop when she finally got pregnant the second time, but this was in vain.
“I persevered until my child was born , but I left when he was just few months old. Then, I went back to my mother and requested to go back to school again. I wanted a bright future for my life,” she recalled.
Cheruto went back to school and performed well in high School but could not pursue further studies. She is now trying t sharpen her passion for singing hoping someone will invest in her talent and grow it.
