Banditry has Plagued the Kerio Valley Region for Nearly a Century, Dating Back to 1901.

Banditry has plagued the Kerio Valley region for nearly a century, dating back to 1901. The entrenched practices of violence and lawlessness in this area must be addressed and eradicated. Dr. Albert Kosachei rightly emphasizes the importance of providing the people of Kerio Valley, particularly those in Elgeyo Marakwet, with the support and resources they need to thrive. It is imperative that we recognize the people of this region as integral members of our country who deserve the best that society has to offer.

One of the key solutions proposed by Dr. Kosachei is the implementation of education and Christianity in double measure. This approach is crucial in changing the mindset and behavior of the residents of Kerio Valley, particularly in areas like Tiaty where generations have been trapped in a cycle of violence and ignorance. By introducing formal education and moral guidance through Christianity, we can begin to break the cycle of banditry and create a more peaceful and prosperous society.

In Tiaty, for example, there are many youths and adults who have never had the opportunity to attend school or experience the benefits of education. Instead, they have been exposed to a culture of violence and conflict, where guns and cattle are more familiar than books and pens. This lack of education and exposure to alternative ways of life perpetuates the cycle of banditry and hinders the development of the community.

To address this issue, Dr. Kosachei proposes a bold and comprehensive plan that includes investing a significant amount of resources – such as a grant of Kes. 50 billion over five years – to completely overhaul the systems and structures in Tiaty. This plan includes building schools, improving infrastructure, empowering women, and providing opportunities for higher education and employment outside of the region. By investing in education, infrastructure, and economic opportunities, we can transform Tiaty into a thriving and peaceful community.

In conclusion, Dr. Albert Kosachei's proposal to address banditry in Kerio Valley through education and Christianity is a necessary and effective approach. By investing in the future of Tiaty and other affected areas, we can break the cycle of violence and poverty and create a brighter future for all residents. It is time to take decisive action and support the people of Kerio Valley in their journey towards peace and prosperity.
