The Finality of Death that Triggers the Hidden Good in People; Fare thee well Brian Chira

The sleepy village of Gathanje, Githunguri in Kiambu county is in utter shock today. The village will be burying a pauper in life but a millionaire in death. Their only road, one that occasionally sees a car or two will have to make do with hundreds of high-end cars. A traffic nightmare to a village so sleepy.

The story of Brian Chira is not only fascinating but sad. How did a 23-year-old earn such a heroic burial? What didn't Chira know in life? That there were people willing to give 8 million shillings and a kingly farewell with the condition that he had to die first leaves me confused.

But it's the shifting trends among this Generation Z that should shock us even more. There wasn't a major fundraising to raise funds for Chira's burial, no mention of a paybill to all Kenyans of goodwill, just a small sub-group on social media calling themselves Kenyan TikTokers.

Yet these lads have raised a whopping 8 million bob in two weeks. There's a generation that's raising 8 million shillings without calling the president, silently burying their own and coming back online, just like that!

Back to Chira. He used to say, "Kama wewe sio pesa, huwezinipa stress," and in death, the guy has 8 million shillings to his name. Without breaking a sweat, well, he broke blood. Is this how manifestation works?

But imagine if you were the grandmother. Imagine feeling proud of a child you raised in death. Yani this boy has left his shosh 8 million shillings richer, and with the country's deepest sympathy.

A boy who openly said he was HIV positive, a boy who had taken to excessive drinking, a boy who would indiscriminately abuse people online, had one woman he submitted to and called shosho, and man they loved each other. And for her willingness to love Chira regardless of his weaknesses, she sleeps a millionaire today.

While I wouldn't judge his grandfather for disowning him (if Chira could make us online his followers feel like disowning him sembuse guka) I wonder how he could be feeling right now. Apparently Chira had attempted to reconcile with him two weeks before his death. But the grandfather refused.

Now that shosh is rich...You know money softens even the hardest of hearts.

Finally, Chira scored an A- in high school, you could tell he was bright from his English. But he carried too much baggage. His life seemed like a rollercoaster. I have learned a thing or two about trauma. One of those lessons is to let people be because I may never know their story. His was troubled.

But it's a prayer for our children, these ones are growing up into a dark world. One where a big nyash, a big mouth, or a queer lifestyle will get you richer quicker than a degree. Sadly, the view of hard work, wealth accusation, and death has been redefined today.

That a boy who held us hostage with nudes, loose mouth, and vulgar talk is being buried a hero today with an account balance longer than his six feet resting place commences a new conversation.

A conversation that baby boomers and millennials will find too pepper-filled to swallow.

On the other hand, Chira was full of life, a one battalion and a fighter. Emerging above the stigma of HIV regardless of how he did it endears him as a cut above his peers.

I don't want to say people are loved more in death than alive, I just want to say that it's the finality of death that triggers the hidden good in people.
