EAC Anthem Cut Short, Other Lapses Witnesses During Mwai Kibaki's Othaya Funeral Service.

Image
The Kenyan defence forces have put up a meticulous performance in giving the former president a send-off fitting for a former commander in chief.  However, despite their precision in conducting their ceremonies, the military are human and are subject to few lapses that escape their watchful eye. From Allan Makana breaching security during Kibaki's funeral service at Nyayo Stadium to a military officer tripping and falling at Kibaki's grave, all was in the full glare of the media.  EAC cut-short Arguably one of the biggest lapses that went unnoticed by most Kenyans was when Kibaki's body arrived at Nyayo Stadium. The KDF was forced to cut short the East African Community Anthem when the Chief of Defence Forces of the Kenya Defence Forces, General Robert Kibochi, invited President Uhuru Kenyatta to sit down. This forced the band that had already begun playing the marching bass drums to stop. This was peculiar, unlike the Kibochi, who has built a reputa...

Former President Mwai Kibaki's Grandson Sean Andrew Removes Finger Ring, Puts it in Grandfather's Grave

Image
Kibaki's final journey   A hearse carrying Kibaki’s body travelled by road from Nairobi and was met by huge crowds who paid their last respects. Upon arrival at his hometown, the coffin was transferred to a military gun carriage.  The service, attended by thousands of Kenyans led by President Uhuru Kenyatta, was presided over by the military and Catholic church. After the service, a private ceremony was held at his home. Military officers lowered Kibaki’s casket into the ground before the priests threw soil on it.  Next came the family, led by his son Jimmy. Next, Kibaki’s children, brother and grandchildren took turns dumping soil on top of his casket.    Andrew's last gesture  However, when Sean Andrew’s turn came, the grief-stricken young man did something different.  Andrew, a model, took a spade from a military officer, pored the soil into the grave and handed it back to the soldier. But before leaving the gravesite, Andrew removed a r...

DP Ruto Eulogizes President Kibaki with great respect and humility.

Image
• DP Ruto said the country owes the late Head of State an election that brings forth outcomes favourable to all parties involved. • This, he said, would serve to eliminate the need for a truce to be brokered between political rivals in order to quell tension as in the past. Deputy President William Ruto has now urged Kenyans, led by the political class, to maintain peace going into the August General Elections as a means of honouring the late former President Mwai Kibaki. DP Ruto, who spoke at Kibaki’s funeral service in Othaya on Saturday, said the country owes the late Head of State an election that brings forth outcomes favourable to all parties involved. This, he said, would serve to eliminate the need for a truce to be brokered between political rivals in the name of a “handshake” as has been witnessed in past elections in order to quell tension. “I think a befitting send off to all of us, as we celebrate the third president, is for us to go into this election and make...

TEARS DRIPS

Like fireballs rolling down the valley Tears feels hot with much fierceness My cheeks are spiced like hell My eyes can’t stop raining down You demise is a great loss to Kenya and Africa. I wish you can wake up and see How those who condemned you Are holding big towels on their hands To wipe out crocodile tears that never fallPraising how good you were. You are a great icon and leader Your hands are still alive though you’re dead Champion of development and history maker Spear that pierced corruption with no fear We regret not to miss you on contrary. Though we aren’t perfect as angels But in the palm of your hands innocent souls Are crying begging for mercy for you hunger For power and ruthless heart you hadBecause of you they were gone before you. Because of you in history of Kenya Blood flowed like a downfallIt became like a watershed of blood You metamophosed into a beast How could we know you were a wolf in sheep’s clothing? We are not judges but As you’ll stand before ...

SABBATICAL POLITICAL BREAK

Image
We expect more from technology and less from each other. We create technology to provide the illusion of companionship without the demands of friendship. ~ Sherry Turkle I’m suspending indefinitely my use of Twitter, Facebook and other social media handles. Before I go, I want to thank you for your support and for sticking with me during this time. I’m so excited to slow down, self-reflect, and make time for some new interests, and I expect I’ll have a lot to share when I return on June 1st. A quiet secluded life in the country, with the possibility of being useful to people to whom it is easy to do good, and who are not accustomed to have it done to them; then work which one hopes may be of some use; then rest, nature, books, music, love for one's neighbor — such is my idea of happiness during my sabbatical leave. My hope is also that this inspires you to spend some time disconnecting over the next one month, something I truly believe we all need. Thanks and see yo...
